ITINERARY

October 17, Saturday: Departure from Edmonton

Early morning flight from Edmonton to Toronto (Air Canada). Customs in Toronto. Flight from Toronto to Tel Aviv (Air Canada). The time difference between Edmonton and Tel Aviv – nine hours.

October 18, Sunday: Tel Aviv – Tiberias

Arrival at Ben Gurion Airport. Exit terminal and meet with your guide Peter Sabella. Drive to your hotel in Tiberias. Sunday Divine Liturgy. Dinner and overnight at Galei Kinnereth Hotel in Tiberias.

October19, Monday: Mt. Tabor – Cana – Nazareth

Drive to Cana of Galilee to visit the wedding Church, where Jesus performed the first of his signs, changing water to wine. Renewal of Wedding Vows. Continue drive to Nazareth and visit the Basilica of the Annunciation starting with the Grotto of the Annunciation and the Church then we will visit the house of the Holy Family underneath the Church of St. Joseph. Divine Liturgy will be held at the Annunciation Church. Lunch at Holy Land Restaurant in Nazareth.

In the afternoon we will drive to Mount Tabor, the Mount of Transfiguration and visit the beautiful Basilica and the rock under the altar where the Transfiguration took place. Spend some time on this peaceful mountain for meditation and reflection. Dinner and overnight at Galei Kinnereth Hotel in Tiberias.

October 20, Tuesday: The Ministry of Christ in Galilee

In the morning, we drive to the Sea of Galilee to visit the Mount of Beatitudes where our Lord gave the Sermon on the Mount continue to Tabgha to see the splendid mosaic of the loaves and fishes with which he fed the five thousand. Visit the Church of St. Peter’s Primacy and then go to visit Capernaum to see the house of St. Peter and the Synagogue where our Lord preached. One of today’s highlights is a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee and we will also see the “Jesus Boat” a 2,000 years old boat found at the shores of Magdala. Lunch at Tanureen Restaurant in Tiberias (Peter’s fish).

Visit Magdala Church and then drive back to the hotel for dinner and overnight. Divine Liturgy on the Mount of Beatitudes or Magdala. Dinner and overnight at Galei Kinnereth Hotel in Tiberias.

October 21, Wednesday: Galilee – Golan Heights

We start our day by celebrating Divine Liturgy at the Primacy Church. After Liturgy we will drive to visit the Byzantine “Kursi” (Miracle of the swine), Chorazin (Jesus Rebuke) and also the Solomonic Chariot City of Hazor. On to Banias (Golan Heights) where the headwaters of the Jordan River are found at the foot of Mt. Hermon. Lunch at Kebab Restaurant.

Back to Tiberias in the early afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Galei Kinnereth Hotel in Tiberias.

October 22, Thursday: Akko – Haifa – Caesarea – Jerusalem

In the morning we will leave Tiberias and drive to visit Akko. Continue drive to Haifa – Visit Stella Maris – Elijah’s Cave. Divine Liturgy at Stella Maris. Lunch in Haifa.

In the afternoon we will Drive to Caesarea – visit the Roman Amphitheatre and the Aqueduct – onto Jerusalem. Dinner and overnight at Notre Dame Center in Jerusalem.

October 23, Friday: Bethlehem – Ein Karem

This morning we drive to Bethlehem to visit the place of birth of our Lord, The Basilica of the Nativity. We will visit the Grotto of the Nativity at the Basilica, the Church of St. Catherine where the Midnight Mass is celebrated, and the Caves of St. Joseph and St. Jerome beneath the church. Divine Liturgy at St. Jerome chapel. Visit Shepherd’s Fields, where the Angles appeared to the shepherds who were watching over their flocks during the night. Lunch at Tent Restaurant in Bethlehem.

In the afternoon, we will drive to nearby village of Ein Karem to visit the birthplace of St. John the Baptist and the Church of the Visitation Where Mary came to visit her kinswoman Elizabeth and proclaimed the ‘Magnificat.’ Dinner and overnight at Notre Dame Center in Jerusalem.

October 24, Saturday: Jerusalem – Mount of Olives – Mount Zion

After breakfast, we drive to the top of Mount Olives for a panoramic view of Jerusalem for a better understanding of its geography and some of the key sites surrounding the area. Visit the Church of Pater Noster, where Jesus taught his disciples how to pray, and then we walk on the Palm Sunday road to the church of Dominus Flevit, where our Lord wept over the city. Continue our walk on the Palm Sunday road to the Garden of Gethsemane. At Gethsemane is the Rock of Agony where Jesus uttered His last prayer. Spend some time in reflection and meditation inside the dim church. Divine Liturgy in the Garden of Gethsemane. A visit to the place of Mary’ burial and assumption. Lunch at Notre Dame Center.

In the afternoon, we go on Mount Zion to visit the Church of the Dormition commemorating our Blessed Mother falling asleep. Next, we go to visit the Cenacle, the place of the Last Supper and Pentecost. Today we also visit the Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu, the house of the high priest, Caiaphas, where Jesus was imprisoned for the night and where Peter denied our Lord. Back to our hotel for dinner and overnight. Dinner and overnight at Notre Dame Center in Jerusalem.

October 25, Sunday: Qumran – Masada – Dead Sea

Start the day by celebrating Divine Liturgy at Dominus Flevit. On this day, we have a rather different experience. We will drive to the Dead Sea area to see the caves at Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were hidden. Continue drive to visit Masada – and we will drive further south along the Dead Sea and stop in place for a swim in the mineral – rich waters of the Dead Sea, renowned for its healing properties. Lunch at Kalia Restaurant. Dinner and overnight at Notre Dame Center in Jerusalem.

October 26, Monday: Jerusalem – the Passion of Christ

Early this morning, Divine Liturgy in the Holy Tomb, or at Calvary, at the Church of Holy Sepulcher. After Divine Liturgy, we return to the hotel to have breakfast, then we leave again to enter the old city of Jerusalem to visit the Western Wall, the Dome of the Rock and El-Aqsa Mosque. On to St. Anne’s Church and the Pools of Bethesda. From there, we continue to the Judgment Hall known as the Antonia Fortress where he was led to be condemned to death by Pontius Pilate. At that place we start walking the Via Dolorosa through the markets of the Old City praying the Stations of the Cross, we reflect on the greatness of His sacrifice, stopping at each of the fourteen stations of the cross until we reach the church of Holy Sepulcher. Visit Calvary and the empty Tomb of our Lord and the different sections of the church. Lunch at Nafoura Restaurant in the Old City.

In the afternoon we will drive to Israel Museum to visit the Model of Jerusalem and Abu Gosh to visit the Benedictine Church. Dinner and overnight at Notre Dame Center in Jerusalem.

October 27, Tuesday: Bethany – Baptismal Site – Jericho

In the morning we will drive to Bethany – visit Lazarus Tomb – Divine Liturgy at Bethany Church.

Continue drive to Baptismal site -Qasr El Yehud – near Jericho. Then we will drive to Jericho – Lunch at Rawda Restaurant in Jericho.

After lunch we will take a cable car and go up to the Mount of Temptation – on to visit the Sycamore tree that Zacchaeus climbed to see Jesus. Dinner and overnight at Notre Dame Center in Jerusalem.

October 28, Wednesday: Samaria

In the morning – Divine Liturgy at Notre Dame Chapel – we will drive to Samaria to visit Jacob’s Well – then, onto the Roman Amphitheatre in Sebastia. Lunch in Sebastia and back to Jerusalem. Farewell Dinner at local Restaurant in Jerusalem. Overnight at Notre Dame Center in Jerusalem.

October 29, Thursday: Tel Aviv – Home

Transfer to Ben Gurion airport, filled with cherished memories, for your return flight home.
