Bishop David Motiuk, Eparch of Edmonton
Born in Vegreville in 1962, Most Reverend David Motiuk has served as Bishop of the Eparchy of Edmonton since 2007. Previously, he has served at Descent of the Holy Spirit Parish in Darling, Ss. Peter and Paul Parish in Drayton Valley, Descent of the Holy Spirit Parish in Edson, and St. Sophia’s Parish in Sherwood Park.
Father Janko Herbut, Pastor
Fr. Janko Herbut was born in the city of Crvenka, former Yugoslavia, and spent his early years in the small village of Ruski Krstur as the third child of four. He pursued his high school education in Rome at Pontificio Seminario Minore Ucraino and completed his studies in philosophy and theology in Croatia in 1991. Faced with the turmoil of war, he returned to Rome and dedicated himself to teaching catechism, Ukrainian, and mathematics at the seminary until 1995. Seeking a new life in Canada, he immigrated through a Ukrainian Social Services sponsorship, and, in 1996, found love and married his wife, Ana, who had also immigrated to Edmonton. In November 11, 2000, Fr. Janko was ordained to the priesthood by Most Reverend Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak. Throughout his journey, he served parishes in the Redwater District from 2000 to 2008 and in Holy Cross Parish in Edmonton from 2008 to 2023. As of August 1st, 2023, Fr. Janko Herbut, became the Rector of the St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral.
Father Mykhaylo Bohun
Father Mykhaylo was born in Ukraine, and ordained in 1987. He emigrated with his family to British Columbia, and served for several years in the Eparchy of Westminster. Father Mykhaylo transferred to the Eparchy of Edmonton, were he currently serves at St. Josaphat Cathedral as the Parish Vicar (Assistant).
Father Terry Cherwick
Father Terry has served 26 years in the military and is a chaplain in the Third Canadian Division. He’s responsible for the chaplains from Thunder Bay to Victoria. Fr. Terry was a pioneer being one of the first to attend the Holy Spirit Seminary. He’s been at St. Josaphat’s for 5 years and is married with five children.
