Chrismation

The Initiation of Baptized Adults into the Catholic Church

Welcome Letter | Application

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Congratulations on your decision to enter fully into the Catholic Church! As a parish community we sincerely welcome you, and we look forward to walk with you on your spiritual journey!

The following is a starting point. The information you share is confidential.

Please note that those who have already been validly baptized as members of another denominational church are not re-baptized. Baptism is a Sacrament that is celebrated once in a person’s lifetime. For validly baptized candidates, full initiation into the Catholic Church takes place through the celebration of three Holy Mysteries: Repentance (Confession), Chrismation (Anointing with Holy Chrism) and Holy Eucharist (Holy Communion).

Please also note that full initiation into the Catholic Church is a process requiring time, good spiritual preparation, prayer, study, reflection and personal growth. All candidates are required to attend weekly catechetical sessions (Wednesday nights), which will begin September 11th 2013, at 7:00 pm, and end on Holy Friday (Good Friday), April 18th 2014. An appropriate break takes place sometime in December-January for the Christmas season.

The Mystery of Repentance (Confession) will be celebrated sometime during Holy Week (April 14-18); whereas the Mysteries of Chrismation and Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at the Vigil Service on Holy Saturday, April 19th 2014 (the day before Easter).

Since candidates as yet cannot receive Holy Communion, we nevertheless invite you to approach on Sundays to receive a blessing! Come forward to one of the priests during the time of Holy Communion and simply say, “A blessing, please.” The priest will then bless you with the Holy Gifts, as you make your spiritual Communion.

May the Lord continue to bless you and may the light of His face shine upon you!
Best wishes,
